This was a very skilfully-presented programme in which Eric took us through the story of the drama from start to finish in the first half, using the music of Debussy, Sibelius and Fauré as illustration. The resulting familiarity with events left the audience well-prepared to follow the course of Schoenberg's long and complex tone-poem.
