Back to 1973/4 season
|Suppé||Overture - "Light Cavalry"|
|Richard Strauss||"Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks"|
|Rimsky-Korsakov||Suite - "Christmas Eve"|
|Hindemith||Violin concerto (1st mvt)|
|Sibelius||Four Lemminkäinen Legends|
The Strauss, Rimsky-Korsakov and Sibelius works were written (or premiered) in 1895, but what is the Suppé or, even more oddly, the Hindemith doing here? The answer is that this is not simply a programme of works dating from 1895. Hindemith was born in 1895 and Suppé died in the same year.
