String quartets play a large part in our programmes, beginning in April 1998 with the Leodian Quartet from Leeds. The left-hand picture shows (left to right) Brian Carlile (viola), Roger Ladds (cello), Raymond Sidebottom (2nd violin), Douglas Reid (1st violin) and also Andrew Roberts (clarinet) who joined the Leodians in the second half of the programme for Mozart's clarinet quintet.

Archinto Quartet 2 An all-male group such as the Leodians is most unusual, in fact we quite often get all-female groups. Such was the Archinto Quartet (below, left to right: Lucy Jeal, Ruth Funnell, Rose Redgrave and Phoebe Scott) who played for us in November 2000.

Another notable example was the Smart String Quartet who held the audience spellbound in February 2002. Left to right: Helena Smart (1st violin), Laura Bell (2nd violin), Lucy Payne ('cello) and Rebecca Jones (viola)
