Programme of Concerts
Season 20 (2015-2016)

Greetings from Burnley and Pendle Music Society! We hope you‘ve had an enjoyable summer and now, as the days get shorter, are looking forward to the pleasures of concert-going. We know how many of you enjoy string quartet recitals and were perhaps disappointed not to see one on last season's prospectus. We are making amends by starting the new season with the Gildas Quartet from Manchester. We continue in November with a rather unusual event; a duo called Trouvère Medieval Minstrels who sing and play on appropriate instruments music from the Middle Ages and remind us that 2015 is the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta. Not only do we have a string quartet - we also welcome a piano trio from Vienna and the season ends with the obligatory piano recital by the young Syrian pianist Riyad Nicolas.

Magna Melodia - Music from the time of Magna Carta
All the music in this programme is from the century or so around the time of Magna Carta, and includes works by Bernart de Ventadorn and Richard the Lionheart himself, as well as many anonymous pieces. It‘s a musical journey with lute, harp, symphony, whistle and much else from France to the Mediterranean and back to England, exploring the wide extent of the Angevin world.
